The UK government has announced plans to make it compulsory for new homes, supermarkets, workplaces, and buildings undergoing large-scale renovation to have electric vehicle (EV) charging points installed from 2022.

This move is part of a strategy to support the wider adoption of EVs and reduce carbon emissions.

Up to 145,000 additional charging points are expected to be installed annually across England until 2030. The government also intends to consult with the industry on implementing easier payment methods at new fast and rapid charge points. In addition, £9.4 million in funding has been confirmed for a hydrogen project at the UK’s largest onshore wind farm near Glasgow, which aims to produce zero-carbon fuel for local transport providers.
